If you are looking for a hidden beach in Nusa Penida with perfect white sand and bright blue waves, it is Suwehan Beach on the island of Nusa Penida. This is one of our favorite places in Nusa Penida – Bali.
There’s even a cool spiky rock that looks like a Christmas tree (or maybe a fairy hat), and locals recently built some tree houses where you can spend the night near the cliffs.
This travel article will explain how to get there and everything you need to know before you go there!

Information on Suwehan Beach Nusa Penida

The trip to Suwehan Beach is relatively short and easy, but it is an excellent exercise for your body. You can start at the top of a large cliff and work down many uneven stone steps.
When I first visited Suwehan in 2017, the place was almost unknown, and you had to descend using a sketchy vertical rope for the last part of the climb. That’s pretty crazy.
Then in 2018, large chunks of cliffs (and trails) were damaged by a landslide, apparently due to a significant earthquake on the island of Lombok.
In 2021, we can finally come back and do this hike again, and I’m happy to report that the trail has improved and is better than ever. The walk takes about 20 minutes, and there are stairs and railings along the way.
The climb back up is steep and tiring, but the trail is safe, and you can see one of the best beaches in Nusa Penida!

Hidden Beach in Nusa Penida

Make sure you check the high tide at Suwehan beach with the hotel you are staying at or your driver before coming here because, at high tide, the beach will be full of seawater and cannot be accessed going down. When the water recedes is the right time to visit it.
The beach is magnificent and similar to Diamond Beach, with perfect white sand, limestone cliffs, and a tall photogenic rock called Jineng stone.
But best of all, it’s still a hidden beach in Nusa Penida. Most tourists don’t know it, so you might come here feeling like you own it!
We saw manta rays, turtles, and even a tiny shipwreck on the beach.

Suwehan Beach Tree House

In 2018, residents built several tree houses on the cliff tops of Suwehan. There are four tree houses now, and you can spend the night in them!
This place is pristine. The outdoor bathroom has a shower and a small hut to order food, and the bed looks comfortable and clean.
The best part is that you have a fantastic view of the sea and cliffs, not far from Suwehan Beach!

How to Get to Suwehan Beach

Suwehan Beach is located on the southeast side of the island of Nusa Penida, in Tanglad Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency. This beach has a unique character in the form of high cliffs along its gorgeous coastline.
Interestingly, only a few people know about this beach because the location is quite hidden. To enter Suwehan Beach, visitors are free of charge. Accessible by car or motorbike, about a 1-hour drive from the main jetty and accommodation in North Penida.
Be careful if you ride a motorbike as the roads are rough and may be dangerous in some places if you don’t slow down!
